Maine to Spend $95 Million Upgrading a Border Station to Mitigate Environmental Impact and Make the Facility ‘Equitable’

As the Biden Administration’s open border policies have led to a massive increase in illegal immigration across the country and in Maine, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is planning to spend nearly $100 million to upgrade a remote Maine border station in the name of climate resilience and “equity.”

“The Coburn Gore Land Port of Entry project will incorporate sustainability features that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate the facility’s environmental impact and simultaneously increase the mission readiness of the federal government by providing resilience to climate change,” said the GSA.

The GSA also said that the upgrades, which will cost taxpayers $95 million, will also make the border station more “equitable,” though the government agency did not specify what aspect of the upgrades will make the border crossing more “equitable.”

The Coburn Gore Land Port of Entry in Northern Franklin County’s unorganized territories processed 24,000 commercial and non-commercial vehicle entries last fiscal year but, according to the GSA, it does not currently have the technology to inspect all vehicles to the official standard of Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).

The upgrades will also expand the station with dedicated traffic lanes for commercial processing, non-intrusive inspections, and secondary inspections.

New facilities will also be built to house CBP agents, allowing them to live at the border station.

The upgrades will use federal funds from The Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which assigns taxpayer money to various infrastructure, and often environmental, projects.

The project is not scheduled to be completed until 2029, and it is unclear whether the upgrades will in any way curtail illegal immigration.

A public meeting, required to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act, will be held at the border station on June 27, at 5pm to discuss the upgrades.

An earlier public hearing on the upgrades was held in October 2023.

What a waste.
Most of the traffic up there is logging trucks.
A favor for Mills keeping illegals from Africa flowing in?
Maybe the “equity” means hiring them to man the border.

“…it is unclear whether the upgrades will in any way curtail illegal immigration.” So, let’s waste $millions for no reason other than promoting the DEI agenda. What a joke and a very bad one at that!!!

Assuming the staton is open 12 hrs /day, 24K vehicles/yr amounts to 5 vehicles per hour. Wouldn’t want those ass busting border agents working in a DEI unfriendly environment suffering the ghastly effects of the climate changing. DEI friendly means letting all the illegals through without a hitch. For 95 million this ought to be a palace. What a waste..

Not to be completed until 2029, by then Trump will have deported them all back to their of origan, and no more will be allowed to come in to our country. But what the heck, it is only $94 million for more nonsense.

It sounds like unless you show up with written text you will not be able to get anything admitted into the record. From what I read there is no oral testimony allowed. What a waste of borrowed money we all have to pay back. The 2nd District in Maine doesn’t need 95 million dollars wasted on something that is already working. Another one of Bidens’, woke,,, jokes… DEI Dollars Equity Incinerated
