The Morning Wire: Are Haitian Migrants Barbecuing Family Pets and Endangered Geese?

If you woke up on Monday and found the internet filled with memes of former President Donald Trump rescuing kittens or ducks, or found AI images of Vice President Kamala Harris cooking cats, we might be able to offer an explanation.

The story begins with a Biden-Harris refugee resettlement program that brought hundreds of thousands of Haitians into the U.S. Although almost every major city in the U.S. has been impacted by the illegal, legal, and quasi-legal immigration policies emanating from the White House, one town in Ohio has been hit particular hard.

That’s because part of the Biden-Harris agenda relocated 20,000 jobless, homeless Haitians into Springfield, Ohio, previously only a town of under 60,000 residents. The Haitian government collapsed earlier this year, with reports of cannibalistic gangs running amok, adding to an ongoing mass exodus from the troubled island nation. That exodus has brought hundreds of thousands to the U.S., including many who have benefitted from the Biden-Harris Admin’s resettlement programs. But Springfield, it turns out, isn’t getting Haiti’s finest, as demonstrated by the dozens and dozens of public — and often viral — complaints that native Springfielders have been posting to social media.

The cat and duck memes began after multiple conservative social media accounts started highlighting statements from Springfield locals claiming that the Haitian immigrants have been killing and eating ducks and geese from local parks, and even abducting and cooking pet cats. The claims appeared to be bolstered by witness pictures and even police video.

“They’re in the park grabbing up ducks by they neck and cutting they head off and walking off with them and eating them,” said a local resident speaking at a city council meeting.

The conservative accounts also brought public attention to a post from a local Facebook group. The post told the story of a local girl who lost her cat. After a lengthy search, the girl discovered her cat hanging from her Haitian neighbors’ tree, being carved for dinner. The post reaffirmed the stories of ducks being taken from local parks and claimed dogs were also being stolen.

4 years ago, they had 60k residents.

Under Harris and Biden, 20,000 Haitian immigrants were shipped to the town.

A video also began circulating, appearing to show Ohio police interrogating a woman who allegedly killed and ate her neighbor’s cat, although The Maine Wire cannot verify the video’s authenticity.

That was the origin of numerous memes, some coming from politicians, claiming that Trump will stop Harris from allowing immigrants to eat their cats.

Even Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) latched onto the issue, highlighting the failures of Harris as border czar as a cause for the Springfield chaos.

Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio.

— JD Vance (@JDVance) September 9, 2024

While it’s not likely that Harris has any plans to start barbecuing park geese or stewing cats, as some memes suggested, she had previously bragged on The View that she had helped 100,000 Haitian immigrants into the country.

“More recently, we extended temporary protective status to over a hundred thousand Haitian migrants,” said Harris.

In other news, at least 16 cats disappeared from Bangor’s Fairmount neighborhood over the course of just two months this summer…

The Pine Tree Pulse

As “wildfire season” sweeps across California and Canada (due more to poor forest management than climate change), Maine is facing its own series of fires. An apartment building in Jay and a beloved Damariscotta restaurant were reduced to rubble last week after catching fire. Now, another apartment building has been reduced to ash following a fire on Sunday night. The fire struck an under-construction apartment building in Auburn that was set to hold 80 living units. Over 100 first responders were involved in the attempts to quell the flames, but the building nevertheless could not be saved. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading. The recent apartment fires will only serve to exacerbate Maine’s growing housing crisis.

The barbaric school shooting in Georgia last week put the nation’s schools on high alert. After the Georgia school was warned about the threat posed by the shooter and did nothing, Maine’s schools are determined to avoid a similar tragedy. The Portland Press Herald has the latest on a credible threat that led to school closures across Bethel. Students were given the day off from school after the MSAD 44 school district in Bethel received a “credible threat” against its Telstar middle and high schools. School officials are working with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department to deal with the threat. The sheriff has not shared details about the nature of the threat. All four schools in MSAD 44’s jurisdiction were closed on Monday, and the district has not indicated whether they will be reopened by Tuesday.

The Bangor Daily News has an update on the hotly contested race for Maine’s Second Congressional District’s (CD2) seat in the U.S. House. The Maine branch of the National Rifle Association (NRA) endorsed State Rep. Austin Theriault’s (R-Fort Kent) bid over incumbent U.S. Rep. Jared Golden (D). Rep. Golden previously received a “B” rating from the NRA for his stance on guns after he ran for office as a rare pro-Second Amendment Democrat. That stance changed following the tragic shooting in Lewiston last October, after which Golden began to call for a ban on “assault weapons.” The NRA has accordingly updated its rating on Golden, reducing his score to an “F,” and warned that Golden will strip Mainers of their Second Amendment rights if given the opportunity. In Maine’s conservative CD2, Golden’s dramatic shift on gun control could lose him the election

Janet Mills along with Catholic Charities is bringing a load of illegals from Haiti to Bangor.
Is it because there are lots of pets and geese up there?

  2. Jerry S . on September 10, 2024 6:38 AM

They will need to cut down some small shrubs for a cooking fire for their geese and ducks .
You know that Haiti is pretty well deforested don’t you ?
They have cut down all the trees to make charcoal to cook their food .

This “ immigration makes us stronger “ slogan starting to sink in yet ?

The old political alignments are breaking up. It is between what is good and what is evil. It’s not about what politicians say, but about what they do and have done. Political promises are worthless. Look around and see what is happening. Believe what you see first-hand and trust what you see. Act on what you see. Do your own research on line and stop paying attention to the “major media” which are brainwashing, democrat-boosting, freedom-hating organizations. Go alternative, including augmenting your health care. As the Bible tells us: “Be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves”. We still have our original constitution and our Bible. Eventually Good will triumph.

And WHO wants them here ?
Kamala and Joe want them here !
Harris is flying them directly into OUR country on jets paid for by you and me .
Sneaking them in during the middle of the night .
How would you “ Mainers “ like having YOUR town become THIRTY PERCENT
illegal? ( Harris flew them in ) Haitians trapping and eating YOUR cats and dogs ?
THIS IS NO JOKE JOE !
No Joke . This is the awful truth about what is happening all around you .
You and your idiot buddy Kamala will destroy this country if we let you !
Hold your nose and vote for trump if you don’t want this shit to continue .

The memes, etcetera, flooding the internet depicting cats getting or about to get eaten by very hungry migrants are not funny, especially for cat fans. I grew up around feral/stray/homeless cats and developed a life-long appreciation and affection for cats in general. As a young boy, finding them slaughtered the first thing in the morning was quite traumatizing.

Domesticated, cats offer reciprocally healthy relationships — many cat lovers describe them as somewhat symbiotic — particularly for those suffering physical and/or mental illness. Yet, human apathy, the throwaway mentality/culture and even a bit of public hostility toward cats typically result in population explosions thus their inevitable neglect and suffering, including severe illness and starvation. With the mindset of feline disposability, it might be: ‘Oh, there’s a lot more whence they came’.

There apparently is a subconscious yet tragic human-nature propensity to perceive the quality thus value of a life in relation to the conditions enjoyed or suffered by that life. Therefore, only when their over-populations are greatly reduced in number through consistent (and publicly funded when necessary) spay/neuter programs, might these beautiful animals’ potentially soothing, even therapeutic, presence be truly appreciated rather than taken for granted, if not even resented. …

Note to potential cat owners: The average lifespan of indoor felines is about three times that of outdoor felines, not to mention the notable absence of outdoor-related injury. Ergo, always keep your pet cat on a chest-harness [‘leash’] during walks, or (preferably) indoors at all times. If you won’t do it for the vulnerable wildlife potentially killed by your roaming cat, then please do it for your also-very-vulnerable cat’s sake.

Sane on cat food. Sponsor a Hatian.

Thank you Frank Sterle, your post hit a nerve w/ me. I am a cat advocate and know that our cats are our best friends. In time of need, they always deliver. Please everyone take this cat/dog disappearing situation seriously and keep an eye on everyone who is a potential killer of these precious friends. This is real, even if it happens only once, that is too much!
