Maine’s Attorney General and Secretary of State sent a letter to the Mane Wire on Friday asking the investigative news outlet to hand over records showing non-citizens are registered to vote and have had votes cast in their names since at least 2016.

In the letter, Attorney General Aaron Frey and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows asked Maine Wire Editor-in-Chief Steve Robinson to provide the state with identifying information related to individuals who appear to be illegally registered to vote, “complete copies” of source documents, and “any other documentation you may have collected that is relevant” to the investigative report published on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Based on Medicaid/MaineCare billing records obtained by the Maine Wire, as well as publicly available information from the Secretary of State’s office about registered voters and voter histories, the Maine Wire was able to determine that at least six non-citizens within a subset of 18 individuals analyzed are registered to vote in Maine, and at least five of the cohort have had votes cast in their names since 2016.

The Maine Wire was not able to determine whether the individuals in question registered themselves to vote and cast votes themselves, or were registered to vote by a third party and had votes cast by someone else on their behalf.

All of the records upon which the Maine Wire based its reporting are already in possession of the state of Maine.

Specifically, the voter registrations and voting histories are maintained by the Secretary of State’s office, while the MaineCare records showing the citizenship status and unique identifying information of all non-citizen Maine residents are maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services.

In a letter of reply, Consovoy McCarthy Attorney Patrick Strawbridge, who represents the Maine Wire and Robinson, sent the following letter of reply:

Bullshit article. You don’t have any access to those records, and anyone who puts their name on a ballot invalidates the vote.

“as well as publicly available information from the Secretary of State’s office about registered voters and voter histories” Surprise, so much for bs.

I seriously doubt that Bellows actually plans to do anything with this. She wants access to the “whistleblower” so she can get them prosecuted somehow. This is likely to completely disappear from the news (if the MSM even reports it to their sheep)!

“Assuming your commitment to rooting out and preventing election fraud is sincere…” We all suspect that’s not true. In fact, these political hacks are likely enabling it.

The Marxist Sec of State doesn’t believe in 1st amendment. Nice to see The Maine Wire pushing back on the regime.

Steve – if you need help analyzing the databases involved, I’d be glad to help. You must know that 5 out of 18 is a strong indicator of a much bigger problem.

Look at the stupid Covid mask on that idiot bellows . How many years has she been scheming to change our state flag ?
NOBODY wants to talk about how much the taxpayers will have to pay for these needless folly .
How much will I have to pay to NOT have the stupid tree on MY license plate I wonder .
We actually dislike bellows more than we dislike mills .

I’m guessing the last paragraph in the Attorney response should have read “appreciate your careful readership,” not “your careful leadership.”

Just sayin’

Always nice to see the clowns in charge, who would never DREAM of auditing their own bloated, worthless bureaucratic agencies, try to twist the arm of the real truth-tellers.

F*** ’em.

Wish I could be “Governor for one day”, just so I could personally fire Bellows!
