Police are actively looking for a suspect believed to be responsible for a stabbing at a dollar store in Sanford’s Midtown Mall that left one man injured.
According to Sanford Police, the stabbing incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Family Dollar located in the Midtown Mall on Maine Street in Sanford.
A male victim, identified by police as 59-year-old Robert Wilson of Sanford, was found at the scene on his knees with bystanders actively controlling the bleeding from multiple stab wounds, police said.
Wilson was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of stab wounds to his back and left side.
Sanford Police said Monday morning that Wilson is currently in stable condition.
Detectives were called to the scene of the stabbing and immediately began an investigation, collecting evidence, inquiring about potential surveillance footage of the incident, and interviewing witnesses, police said.
Sanford Police described the suspect as having long hair, wearing blue jeans, a backward-facing hat and a multi-colored (not tie-dye or camo) hooded sweatshirt, and said that he was last spotted heading north.
The suspect is also believed to have stolen a backpack from the scene, according to police.
Sanford Police said that the investigation is ongoing, and that they believe the incident is isolated and there is no evidence to suggest an ongoing immediate threat to the public.
