Some Mainers Will Return to the Polls on February 25 to Fill Vacant House Seat in House District 24

Some Maine voters will again be asked to go to the ballot box in February to fill a now-vacant seat in the Maine House of Representatives.

The Maine Secretary of State’s Office announced this past Friday that a special election will be held in House District 24 on February 25, 2025 for the seat previously held by Rep. Joseph C. Perry (D-Bangor).

Rep. Perry — who won reelection in November to serve in the state’s 132nd Legislation — resigned his seat earlier this month after being elected as the next State Treasurer.

The State Treasurer’s Office became vacant when Henry E. M. Beck stepped down after serving in the position for six years, having first assumed office in January of 2019 and being twice reelected by the Legislature.

Maine’s political parties will now caucus to select their respective candidates to run for the seat.

Nominations are due to the Secretary of State’s Office by 5pm on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Non-party candidates must obtain the signatures of between 50 and 80 House District 24 registered voters by this same deadline.

Write-in candidates for the office must declare their candidacy by 5pm on January 14, 2025.

Whichever candidate is elected by voters on February 25 will serve the remainder of the two-year term in the House of Representatives.

House District 24 includes Veazie and part of Bangor, Brewer, and Orono.

According to recent data from the Secretary of State’s Office, active registered Democrats hold a plurality in the district at just over 41 percent.

Around 27 percent of active voters in District 24 are registered as Republicans, while roughly 26 percent are unenrolled.

The remaining active voters are distributed among Maine’s officially recognized third parties, with 3.58 registered as members of the Green Party, .84 percent as Libertarians, and .93 percent as members of No Labels.

As of June 2024, there were 5,804 active voters registered in District 24.

Why even bother, those welfare queens are like dumb animals playing in the road, they have no clue. Reminds me of the three stooges driving nails, one holding one hammering. โ€œWhen I nod my head hit itโ€ Democratsโ€ฆ

I have supported the Maine Wire because our family loves Maine, visits often, but are disgusted by Gov. Mills and the Democrat (Communist) Party.
I canโ€™t understand why the people of Maine arenโ€™t organizing and fighting to remove these communists.

I serve in the Maine house, in my 6 years there I have observed that mainstream media does not share what happens in Augusta. The Maine wire is the closest to telling the truth.
