Another Major American Brand Slowly Backs Away From DEI

McDonaldโ€™s announced Monday it is abandoning some of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, joining a growing list of major companies to cast the policies aside amid intense public scrutiny.

The fast food chainโ€™sย announcementย stated it is โ€œretiringโ€ โ€œaspirational representation goals,โ€ rebranding the companyโ€™s diversity team as the โ€œGlobal Inclusion Team,โ€ and nixing diversity pledges for its suppliers. The company noted that it will remain โ€œsteadfastโ€ in upholding โ€œinclusionโ€ across its business.

โ€œAs we start the New Year and set our ambitions for McDonaldโ€™s, we want to also update you on our accomplishments embedding inclusion throughout our system and highlight a few important changes to our approach,โ€ the announcement reads. โ€œWe are also excited to introduce a new concept: the power of OUR โ€˜Golden Ruleโ€™ โ€” treating everyone with dignity, fairness and respect, always. For the last several months, a small team has been working on refining our language to better capture McDonaldโ€™s commitment to inclusion.โ€

McDonaldโ€™s is pausing its DEI pledge โ€œin favor of a more integrated discussion with suppliers about inclusion as it relates to business performanceโ€ and will โ€œfocus on continuing to embed inclusion practices that grow our business,โ€ the announcement said.

The fast food giant also boasted it had already met several of its diversity goals, such as achieving โ€œpay equityโ€ and โ€œstrong leadership diversity,โ€ according to the announcement.ย (RELATED: Red State University Pours Millions Into DEI, Hosts Federally-Funded โ€˜Nonbinaryโ€™ Rock Climbing Program)

McDonaldโ€™s said that legal issues revolving around DEI at universities, especially theย Supreme Court caseย that ruled the use of race as a factor for admission unconstitutional, contributed to its decision.

Walmart made headlines in November when the superstoreย announcedย it was walking back several of its DEI policies and would no longer supply transgender items for minors, while Costcoย doubled downย on its approach. Severalย universities, such as the University of Michigan, have made efforts to dismantle their DEI programs, with many doing so in response to state laws thatย banย the discriminatory practices.

Calls for companies to take a step back from DEI came after several studies offered a grim outlook on the programs, suggesting that the efforts may make people more likely to agree with statements fromย Adolf Hitlerย on race andย failย to improve outcomes for nonwhite people orย increaseย diversity and race relations.

McDonaldโ€™s did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundationโ€™s request for comment.

In other news pinhead pingree has voted no (H.R. 29) to deporting immigrants who are convicted of crimes including rap*e, child m*lestation, murder and other heinous acts. I can only hope she suffers the same fate of her constituents.  Golden is still shell shocked from the last election and voted correctly. Weโ€™ll see how long that sticks.
