President Donald Trump and Maine Governor Janet Mills traded legal ultimatums on Friday afternoon in a dispute arising from the state’s refusal to implement a White House order banning males from female school sports.

“Governors won’t be governors if they continue to allow men in women’s sports,” Trump said, before looking to Governor Mills and asking her what she’s going to do.

“You better do it, because you’re not going to get federal funding,” Trump said directly to Mills during a meeting with bipartisan governors in Washington.

According to the Daily Wire’s White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan, Mills said Maine will continue to follow state and federal law, prompting Trump to say “see you in court,” and Mills responded in kind.

“We’re going to follow the law, sir, we’ll see you in court,” Mills reportedly said.

“Enjoy your life after governor, because I don’t think you’ll be an elected official afterwards,” Trump shot back.

Per WH official — POTUS just called out Gov. Mills of Maine from the podium about her state allowing men in women's sports.

Trump: “Governors won’t be governors if they continue to allow men in women’s sports,” looked at Mills and asked her what she’s going to do.

Maine has refused to implement the executive order Trump issued earlier this month banning biological males from female school sports because, the Democrat-led state says, it violates the Maine Human Rights Act.

At stake is over $250 million in federal funding to education in Maine. While the vast majority of the state’s estimated $2.6 billion annual education budget is funded by municipalities and the state, the federal government also contributes both directly and indirectly to various education programs — funding that, if withheld, would have an impact on schools’ operation.

Maine’s senior U.S. Senator Susan Collins, who chairs the powerful Committee on Appropriations, warned Trump earlier this week that withholding federal funds, specifically referring to actions taken by the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), potentially violates the constitution and will lead to many lawsuits.

Here’s the moment President Trump challenged Maine’s governor for refusing to defend women’s spaces: “Your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports…You better do it. You better comply otherwise you’re not getting any federal funding.”pic.twitter.com/vc8j0hdCcy

Good job there Janet. Good job .
I hope letting that asshole kid pretending to be a girl at Greeley HS was worth the TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS that you’re now going to have to come up with .
You’ve screwed up everything else in Maine , why would we expect anything different from you now .
Would you PLEASE just resign and go away . Maine can’t afford any more of your “ leadership “.
Democrats and Janet Mills are destroying my state .

I don’t like using ad hominem attacks by criticizing a person’s looks but, I’ll make an exception. According to this photo, Mills hasn’t aged very well.

Thank you Governor Mills for making people think that not only are we all hicks and rubes , but we are transvestite lovers too . You are a disappointment to the citizens of Maine and I am glad that you are term limited out of the governor’s office .
I am NOW ashamed to tell people that I am from a place that used to be known as “ the way life should be “. You have stolen that from me .

We have lost our collective minds! As a mother, I am horrified that our self righteous governor is willing to drive us bankrupt just to terrorize our daughters by forcing them to share locker rooms with men pretending to be women. Does no one in our state care about the young girls? Even a grandmother like Governor Mills is willing to throw her granddaughters on the fire and force our state to lose millions of federal school dollars just to support perversion? Not to mention that she is breaking federal law, and should therefore be prosecuted, or at least impeached. We are better than this, Mainers!

The issue here, that’s not being said, is that every child — male, female, or confused — should be able to play a sport at that child’s ability level. That’s what physical fitness is about and that is what FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education) is supposed to be.

The problem with school consolidation is that they boys who want to play sports but aren’t superstars no longer can. That’s wrong too.
