On Tuesday, Portland Police took three suspects into custody accused of displaying handguns and making threats against an individual at a mosque on Forest Avenue.

Police say they responded to the Cumberland Islamic Center at 1844 Forest Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday for a weapons possession call.

Witnesses told police that three individuals in a black BMW vehicle pulled up to the front entrance of the mosque, and that two of the occupants displayed handguns and made threatening remarks towards an individual.

According to the mosque’s Facebook page, the mosque began a livestreamed Ramadan service just minutes after police received the call at 9:09 p.m.

Patrol officers located the vehicle shortly thereafter at another mosque in Portland, the Maine Muslim Community Center at 118 Anderson Street.

Police say that two juvenile suspects were taken into custody and interviewed by detectives, and were ultimately released to their parents with charges pending.

A 19-year-old suspect was also taken into custody with charges pending, police said.

According to Portland Police, no one was injured in the incident and no guns have been recovered as of Wednesday morning.

The incident at the Portland mosque comes just over a week after a shooting outside of a mosque in Lewiston on the evening of Friday, March 7 interrupted a Ramadan service and left a 19-year-old injured.

Photos a bit funky, his left arm appears to be in the door jam and the chrome window trim looks to be over the arm. Is this a fake photo?
