The Lewiston Police Department on Tuesday issued an update on their investigation into a shooting that occurred outside of a mosque Friday evening, stating that both the victim who suffered a gunshot wound and the members of the mosque have been uncooperative with police.

Police responded to Masjidu Salaam Mosque at 243 Bartlett St. in Lewiston at about 9:45 p.m. on Friday to numerous reports of gunfire heard in the area.

Upon arrival at the scene, police spoke with a witness who confirmed the shooting had taken place in the parking lot of the mosque, where a Ramadan service was being held.

“There was not a lot of cooperation from the numerous Mosque members who (had been) attending prayer,” the Lewiston Police Department stated on Tuesday.

At 10 p.m. on Friday, police were dispatched to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston due to a report that a male had been dropped off with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police say the 19-year-old victim, Liban Hassan, was not cooperative with police but “all indications suggest he was shot during the shooting incident at the Mosque.”

During a search of the mosque parking lot early Saturday morning, police found over a dozen shell casings with assorted caliber weapons, suggesting that several shooters were involved.

Police were also able to recover the victim Liban Hassan’s vehicle, which was found abandoned with “extensive damage” from bullet holes.

Hassan’s vehicle was impounded and was searched by police after a warrant was obtained.

Police say Hassan has now been released from the hospital and continues to be uncooperative with their investigation.

Always the same old story with the usual suspects. Call Tom Homan and his minions to help us invest in deportation and round up these criminal little drug lords.

Shut down the Mosque as a threat to public safety until someone tells the police what happened. This is what the police did with the Baptist Church in Lee 40 years ago, Reverend Dumphy I believe his name was, and what is the difference?

The state didn’t tolerate reckless conduct with firearms then from that religious group, why should it tolerate reckless conduct with firearms now from this one?
