A shooting outside of a mosque in Lewiston on Friday night interrupted a Ramadan service and left a 19-year-old injured.

Lewiston Police say they responded to the parking lot of “Masjidu Salaam Mosque” at 240 Bartlett St. at around 9:45 p.m. on Friday to reports of a shooting.

A 19-year-old man was injured in the shooting, and took himself to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The victim’s name has not been released.

Police suspect that multiple shooters were involved, but no arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.

According to police, everyone inside the mosque fled before police arrived at the scene.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the shooting and are asking any witnesses to contact the department.

Lewiston has seen an uptick in shootings and shots fired incidents over the last year, including one in which gunshots interrupted a refugee nonprofit group’s ‘family fun day’ event at a public park, as well as a shooting at a Lewiston public housing complex that left a 17-year-old dead.

Some things never change….. the teenage Somalis shooting up “law enforcement” seemingly baffled asking for public help. I guess the community reach out program isn’t working.
One would think that the Lewiston police perhaps instructed not to arrest or prosecute these “New Mainers”.
