The Penobscot Sheriff’s Department charged two teens following a weeks-long investigation into a string of car thefts across Brewer and Orrington.
The investigation began on July 24, when the Brewer Police Department reached out to the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department reporting an abandoned vehicle.
The vehicle was later determined to have been stolen from Orrington.
Over the next weeks, deputies assigned to Orrington worked with Brewer officers to investigate the car theft.
During the investigation, additional vehicles were reported stolen in Orrington and Brewer.
Those vehicles were also subsequently recovered.
Eventually, investigators identified two juvenile suspects, a 14-year-old from Brewer and a 15-year-old from Orrington. Both were charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, and unauthorized use of property.
The Sheriff’s Department did not specify whether the minors were actually taken into custody or simply charged and released back into their parents’ custody.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
