Topsham’s Mt. Ararat High School is losing its athletics director at the end of the school-year, according to a resignation letter submitted on Thursday, just days after the school revealed a police investigation into a different, now former, teacher.

“This is not a decision I have made lightly, but I feel it is best for me and my family that I step aside from the rigors of this very demanding position and pursue other professional opportunities,” said athletics director Geoff Godo in his resignation letter.
“I look forward to concluding this Spring athletic season and providing whatever transitional support that I can through the summer for whomever is next to lead Mt. Ararat Athletics into the 2025-2026 school year. I will forever be an Eagle, and I wish nothing but the best to our Mt. Ararat student-athletes, coaches, staff and community members,” he added.
The Maine School Administrative District (MSAD) 75 school board accepted Godo’s resignation on Thursday. The resignation will go into effect on August 1. He has served in his position since 2016 and worked for two years before that as a freshman baseball coach at the school.
There is no indication that Godot’s decision had anything to do with his colleague’s termination or investigation.
The resignation will likely put more pressure on the MSAD 75 board, which already needs to contend with the loss of the teacher who recently came under investigation by the Portland Police Department.
MSAD 75 Superintendent Heidi O’Leary announced on May 19 that a former teacher had come under investigation on May 2, but did not reveal any information about the allegations or the name of the teacher involved.
The teacher involved has been removed from his position, but no arrests have yet been made.
