Reya N. Jasmin, 36, a transgender-identifying New Hampshire man, is facing charges for allegedly stabbing his wife to death on Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide attempt. He had previously headlined the local library’s “Ask a Transgender Woman Anything” event.

The NH Attorney General’s (AG) office first reported the incident through a Sunday press release, explaining that local law enforcement responded to a home on Old Country Road in Plaistow, NH, and discovered a deceased woman, Margaret Jasmin, 39, and Reya Jasmin who was suffering from injuries.

The initial press release referred to Reya Jasmine as a man, without giving his name, while subsequent press releases began referring to the alleged murderer as a woman.

The AG’s office provided an update on Monday, offering more details. Officers arrived and discovered Margaret Jasmin dead from stab wounds, while Reya Jasmin was partially unresponsive and suffering from multiple injuries.

The press release clarified that the child living in the home was uninjured. Neither of the releases specified who called the police.

Reya Jasmin was transported to an unspecified out-of-state hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A warrant was issued for his arrest, though his arraignment will be set for a future date, likely after he is released from the hospital.

He faces second-degree murder charges, and the AG release accuses him of recklessly causing his wife’s death.

An autopsy conducted on Margaret Jasmin’s remains found multiple stab wounds and confirmed that her death was a homicide.

The Attorney General’s press releases did not speculate on the motive behind the alleged murder or the apparent suicide attempt, and they appeared to intentionally conceal the fact that Jasmin is a transgender-identifying male.

Reya Jasmin amassed 47 followers on his TikTok channel, which largely focused on weightlifting videos. The channel contained only seven videos, all posted in 2020. In one of those videos, Jasmin claimed that “my gender is best described as lifting with acrylics.”

On his TikTok channel, he lists his pronouns as “they/she,” but his LinkedIn page lists them as “she/her.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Reya Jasmin works as a software engineer for Cambridge Systematics in Medford, Massachusetts, and focuses on “making transportation more equitable.”

In 2019, Reya Jasmin headlined an event at the local Plaistow Public Library titled “Ask a Transgender Woman Anything!”

In the event description, Reya Jasmin claimed that he decided to change his gender in 2017 and began hormone therapy in 2018. That description also showed that his son was just three years old in May 2019, meaning that he was just nine years old at the time of his mother’s alleged murder.

“I’d like to have an open conversation about my experience and hope it helps build greater understanding in our community and society in general,” he said in his event description.

The event seemed to be at least somewhat directed towards children, based on a post from the library showing a display of books, including LGBTQ children’s books, set up for the event.
