The York Police Department on Tuesday announced that officers successfully apprehended two murder suspects from Texas in York.

York Police say that officers were made aware on Monday that two fugitives suspected of murder in Texas might be in the York area.

York Police, Wells Police and the U.S. Marshals Service searched for the two suspects in potential areas where they may be in both York and Wells.

Police say that two York patrol officers were enroute to a separate call on Tuesday when they observed a male and a female matching the last known description of the suspects walking west on York Street.

After stopping the two individuals, police positively identified them as the two murder suspects from Texas.

The two suspects were cooperative with officers and were detained, police said. The gun believed by authorities to have been involved in the murder was recovered on the scene and seized as evidence.

York Police say the U.S. Marshals and Wells Police assisted on the scene with securing the suspects and evidence related to the crime of murder in Texas.

Arrested were Avery E. Stemmons, 22, of Killeen, Texas, and Karina Gonzalez Barreto, 21, also of Killeen.
