Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are facing a massive 500 percent increase in violent assaults against them while they carry out their duties and attempt to deport illegal immigrants, according to an exclusive Friday report from Breitbart.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released new data revealing ICE law enforcement is now facing a 500 percent increase in assaults against them while carrying out enforcement operations. Just this week, an ICE officer was dragged 50 yards by a car while arresting an illegal alien sex offender,โ€ said DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin on Thursday.

“Make no mistake, sanctuary politicians are contributing to the surge in assaults of our ICE officers through their repeated vilification and demonization of ICE. This violence against ICE must end,” added the DHS on X.

In statements provided to Breitbart, McLaughlin pointed to the arrest of illegal immigrant and child sex offender Roberto Carlos Munoz in Minnesota. Munoz allegedly dragged an ICE agent 50 yards with his car as the agent attempted to arrest him during a traffic stop. The incident led to the agent being hospitalized.

She also criticized rhetoric from some Democratic politicians, along with sanctuary policies, for inciting this increase in violence against federal agents.

“Make no mistake, Democrat politicians like (U.S. House Minority Leader) Hakeem Jeffries, Mayor Wu of Boston,โ€ฏGovernor Tim Walz, and Mayor Bass of Los Angeles are contributing to the surge in assaults of our ICE officers through their repeated vilification and demonization of ICE,โ€ said McLaughlinย

โ€œFrom comparisons to the modern-day Nazi gestapo to glorifying rioters, the violent rhetoric of these sanctuary politicians is despicable. This violence against ICE must end,โ€ she added.

Maine’s legislature passed a bill last week that will adopt numerous sanctuary policies across the state and severely hamper local law enforcement cooperation with immigration enforcement activities.

The Maine Wire previously reported on another incident from May where Worcester City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj allegedly assaulted ICE officers in an attempt to prevent the deportation of an illegal immigrant who had previously assaulted a pregnant woman.

Haxhiaj is facing charges for the alleged assault.

Neither the DHS nor Breitbart mentioned the time period from which the current increase in assaults is measured. For example, they do not specify whether the increase is from 2024 to 2025, from the Biden Administration to the Trump Administration, or any other timeframe.
