Three Bangor police officers are on leave following a Wednesday officer-involved shooting, after they returned fire at a suspect who allegedly first opened fire on them.

According to Bangor Police Sgt. Jason McAmbley, speaking to the Bangor Daily News, officers responded to a house on Broadway at around 2:45 p.m., after receiving a call from a person at the house warning that another person there had a firearm and was threatening to commit suicide.

When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly refused to drop his gun at their request. The suspect then allegedly opened fire on the officers.

Three officers were reportedly forced to return fire, hitting the suspect. The suspect was wounded and transported to a local hospital. The Bangor Police Department has not released the suspect’s name or condition. They gave no indication that any of the officers involved were injured.

The three officers, Brian Cronk, Taylor Reynolds, and Ben Ferlan, were placed on administrative leave, as is protocol while officer-involved shootings are investigated.

Part of Broadway was closed during and immediately following the incident. The initial press release from Bangor just warned of the partial road closure due to police activity and provided no additional details on the incident.
