A Saco man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a multi-town chase through York and Cumberland Counties.
Maine State Police say that shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, a trooper observed a white Hyundai Sonata traveling at a reckless speed and passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone on Route 25 in Cornish.
The driver of the Hyundai failed to stop for the state trooper and continued at a high speed.
State Police coordinated with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to deploy spike mats at the Limington-Standish town line in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Although the spike mats were successful in deflating both passenger-side tires of the vehicle, the driver continued to flee from police and continued through the intersection of Routes 25 and 35 in Standish, where the driver rear-ended another vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai continued to flee after the collision eastbound on Route 25 in Gorham, where a state trooper was able to successfully conduct a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to end the pursuit.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Gabriel Nodarse of Saco.
Police say Nodarse sustained minor injuries during the pursuit, and was evaluated at the scene before being taken to York County Jail.
Nodarse was charged with eluding and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
According to State Police, investigators found that Nodarse was involved in a hit-and-run crash earlier Thursday morning at about 9:10 a.m. on High Street in Bridgton.
Police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
