A Greenwood motorcyclist was killed on Monday during a three-vehicle crash in Raymond.
At approximately 7:27 p.m., deputies from the Cumberland Sheriff’s Department responded to the intersection of Webb’s Mills Road and Tarkiln Hill Road in Raymond with the Raymond Fire Department for reports of a three vehicle crash.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe that Seth Hodgkins, 20, of Greenwood was traveling north on Route 85 at the time of the crash.
At the same time, Seth Thayer, 23, of Raymond, was operating a brown 2012 Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound when he tried to make a left turn onto Tarkiln Hill Road.
As Thayer turned left, Hodgkins allegedly struck his vehicle, and was ejected from his motorcycle.
After being ejected from his motorcycle, Hodgkins was then hit by a 2015 GMC Terrain operated by Christopher Akers, 55, of Casco, travelling south behind Thayer.
Hodgkins was pronounced dead on the scene and was found to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Cumberland Sheriff’s Department is working with the Windham Police Crash Reconstruction Team to investigate the cause of the crash.
Investigators do not currently believe that alcohol was involved, and they have not placed any blame on those involved.

“As Thayer turned left, Hodgkins allegedly struck his vehicle, and was ejected from his motorcycle.” As a retired Motorcycle Safety Foundation Motorcycle Riding Instructor i am tired of seeing reports of left turning cars killing Motorcycle riders portraying the crash as the Motorcycle riders fault. This one is a perfect example. Left turning cars are the leading cause of multi vehicle motorcycle accident deaths.
