The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) and Winthrop Police Department announced the arrest of two individuals on charges of aggravated drug trafficking following a month-long investigation into cocaine and fentanyl sales at a Winthrop motel, authorities said Thursday.

Stephen Lee Smith, 34, of Broad Brook, Conn., faces two counts of aggravated drug trafficking, while Katelynn Dubois, 32, of Winthrop, was charged with two counts of aggravated drug trafficking and one count of unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs.

Smith’s bail was set at $50,000 cash, and Dubois’ bail was set at $500 cash with $5,000 unsecured. Both are currently detained at the Kennebec County Jail awaiting their initial court appearance.

The arrests followed the execution of three search warrants on June 18, targeting a motel and storage unit in Winthrop, and another at a storage unit in Gardiner.

According to the MDEA, agents seized 116 grams of fentanyl and 158 grams of cocaine from the motel, with an additional 143 grams of cocaine and $6,980 in suspected drug proceeds recovered from the Winthrop storage unit.

No drugs or proceeds were found at the Gardiner storage unit.

The MDEA estimated the street value of the seized fentanyl at $14,500, while the cocaine is valued at $30,000.
