A York police officer arrested a New Hampshire man in NH on Wednesday after he allegedly sparked a police chase that crossed the Maine to NH border twice and spanned six towns.

York police officers Cpl. Jordan Ochs and Sgt. Jonathan Rogers initiated a traffic stop of a silver Chevy Impala on Cider Hill Road for a suspect they believed to be operating while under the influence.

The driver, Dashawn White, 23, of Rochester, NH, allegedly failed to stop for officers after they turned on their emergency lights, prompting a chase.

According to the York police department, White led them through six towns, York, South Berwick, and Eliot in Maine, and Rollinsford, Dover, and Somersworth in NH, crossing the state line back and forth twice.

A NH State Police Trooper joined the pursuit, and multiple local police departments attempted to intervene to stop White, deploying spike strips to deflate his tires. White eventually hit one of the strips near the intersection of Clement Rd and Green Street, in Somersworth, NH, and one of his tires was deflated.

Sgt. Rogers then conducted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, striking White’s car and ending the vehicle chase.

White nevertheless continued his escape attempt and reportedly fled on foot. Rogers deployed his K-9 Unit, Gunther, to chase down White, who was successfully apprehended.

White was transferred to the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH before being handed over into the custody of the NH state police.

He faces charges in Maine for eluding, three felony counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, along with recommended misdemeanor charges for criminal speed, operating without a license, and refusing to submit to arrest.

In NH, he faces three counts of felony reckless conduct, being habitual offender, disobeying an officer, aggravated driving under the influence, driving after license revocation, and two counts of false imprisonment.

The York police department did not specify what White allegedly did to incur the false imprisonment charges, which apply when someone illegally restrains another person against their will.

A man by the name of Deshawn White, living in Portsmouth, NH, at the time, whose age matches the suspect in this case, was arrested in 2021 in Rollinsford, NH on kidnapping, assault, and domestic violence charges.
