A 14-year-old male was injured in a shooting at an affordable housing complex in Lewiston early Sunday morning, according to Lewiston Police.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m., when police received reports of gunshots near the Hillview apartment complex at 77 Rideout Ave., a property managed by the Lewiston Housing Authority. The same apartment complex was the site of a shooting last year that left a 17-year-old dead.

Officers searched the area by cruiser and on foot, speaking with several residents who confirmed hearing gunfire.

While no evidence of a shooting was initially found, later that morning authorities were called back to the complex after a 14-year-old male approached a residence with two gunshot wounds to the leg.

The youth was transported to Central Maine Medical Center and later transferred to Maine Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed that all individuals involved, including the victim, had evaded police during the initial response.

A search warrant executed at one of the Hill View apartments led to the recovery of a firearm, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing, with no further details released as of Monday.
