U.S. Border Patrol agents operating out of the Fort Fairfield border station arrested a Chinese illegal alien and alleged scammer last Wednesday following a routine traffic stop.

The Houlton Border Patrol announced the arrest on Tuesday, suggesting that the Chinese national, whom they did not name, was pulled over during a routine stop because “he just couldn’t keep the car between the lines.”

During the stop, police determined that the driver was in the country illegally and that he was operating a rental vehicle.

Law enforcement discovered $43,500 in cash in the vehicle, which they believe had allegedly been obtained through scamming a local Maine resident.

Border Patrol notified Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) of the arrest, and it is conducting a further investigation and attempting to return the money to the victim.
