The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) executed a week-long crackdown on the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) terrorist organization, leading to 670 arrests and thousands of kilograms of drugs seized.

“DEA is targeting the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as what it is—a terrorist organization—at every level, from its leadership to its distribution networks and everyone in between,” said DEA Administrator Terrance Cole.

“DEA is committed to these partnerships to take the fight directly to designated terrorist organizations. Every arrest, every seizure, and every dollar stripped from CJNG represents lives saved and communities protected. This focused operation is only the beginning—we will carry this fight forward together until this threat is defeated,” he added.

The operation, carried out from September 22 to 26, took place over 23 domestic field divisions and seven foreign regions.

It aimed to take down CJNG, one of the most prolific and violent drug trafficking organizations, according to the DEA.

CJNG was among the cartels and gangs officially designated as a foreign terrorist organization by President Donald Trump in February.

“CJNG is a significant threat to public safety, public health, and national security. CJNG is responsible for flooding the United States with deadly fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin to fuel addiction, overdoses, and violence in communities across the United States,” said the DEA.

The crackdown resulted in 670 arrests and the seizure of a significant amount of contraband and drug proceeds.

  • 92.4 kilograms of fentanyl powder,
  • 1,157,672 counterfeit pills,
  • 6,062 kilograms of methamphetamine,
  • 22,842 kilograms of cocaine, and
  • 33 kilograms of heroin
  • $18,644,105 in cash
  • $29,694,429 in assets
  • 244 firearms

According to the DEA, CJNG has tens of thousands of members across at least 40 countries and operates globally.

CJNG leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, aka “El Mencho,” remains on the DEA’s most wanted fugitive list and is the subject of a $15 million reward.
