A Saco physical education teacher has cinched his third Guinness World Record, this time for the most high school three-pointers made in one hour, marking another milestone in a career that has combined teaching, athletics, and community motivation.
Ryan Martin, a former college basketball player who now teaches physical education at Saco Middle School, took on the challenge Monday night in front of a packed gym of students, staff, and families.
Martin is no stranger to high-volume shooting feats, and with two previous Guinness World Records already to his name, expectations were high as the attempt began.
To set the new record, Martin needed to make 1,372 shots from the high school three-point line within an hour. With a steady rhythm and a consistent form, he not only reached the mark but far exceeded it.
Over the course of 60 minutes, he attempted 1,683 shots and made 1,516 of them, achieving a 90 percent completion rate. The gym erupted each time he reached a new milestone, and the reactions grew louder as the clock wound down.
The event became more than a record-breaking performance. Staff members helped organize a school-wide celebration, including bringing in a food truck and encouraging students and families to attend. A portion of the proceeds from the evening went toward the school’s athletic program, turning the record attempt into both a community gathering and a fundraiser.
