A former two-time Maine gubernatorial loser and convicted child-porn fiend is rejecting police claims he violated his probation by going online looking for an “escort.”
The twice-defeated candidate Eliot Cutler is accused of accessing prohibited websites and using unmonitored electronic devices.
He pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Hancock County.
Cutler two years ago admitted to four counts of possessing sexually explicit materials of children as part of a plea deal.
Investigators said they had found tens of thousands of pornographic images and videos of children on Cutler’s electronic devices.
The conviction included jail time and probation terms ordering him not to use his computer or phone without being monitored.
Cutler, 79, is now accused of using an external USB drive two months ago to contact California massage parlors.
Cops say Cutler also answered the website’s questions about his desired preferences in an escort.
He had allegedly made plans to go to California “to see friends,” police say.
Cutler allegedly violated his probation accessing a website with sexually explicit materials and failing to tell his probation officer what he was up to.
As part of his plea deal, Cutler was sentenced to nine months in prison and six years probation – a light sentence given the gravity of his crimes that some attributed his his wealth and influence in the state.
The disgraced lawyer reported to the Hancock County Jail in June 2023. He was released a year ago six weeks early for good behavior.
His next court appearance is January 26.
Cutler ran and lost twice for governor as an “independent,” in 2010 and 2014.
