A Howland sex offender convicted of passport fraud was sentenced to time served on Thursday during his sentencing hearing, after spending 14 months in prison.

Eric Ericson, 73, of Howland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stacey D. Neumann to time served in the U.S. District Court in Bangor after Ericson was convicted of passport fraud in October following a three-day trial.

He has already spent 14 months in prison, and his time served will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Ericson applied for a passport at a U.S. Post Office in Bangor in March 2023. He failed to disclose prior aliases he had used, as required on the passport application.

He also falsely claimed that he had never been issued a passport before, despite having previously applied for and obtained a passport under a different name.

He then certified that the information on his passport application was accurate.

The Diplomatic Security Service Portsmouth Resident Office and the Maine State Police investigated the case.

Ericson currently appears on the sex offender registry following a 2010 conviction for gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, and sexual abuse of a minor.
