Hundreds of participants are set to ring in the New Year by charging into the Atlantic Ocean in front of The Brunswick during the 2026 Lobster Dip, a benefit for Special Olympics Maine. For details and registration information, visit the event page on the Special Olympics Maine website.

Now in its 38th year, the Lobster Dip is Special Olympics Maine’s largest one-day fundraiser, supporting year-round sports training, athletic competition, and health and leadership programs for more than 5,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state.

The event will feature two separate “waves,” with the first scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and the second at noon. Each dip typically lasts only a few minutes, as participants sprint into the ocean, turn back, and rush ashore, often greeted by friends or family members with dry towels.

Check-in and same-day registration will begin at 9 a.m. at The Brunswick, located at 39 West Grand Ave. in Old Orchard Beach.

Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $200,000 for this year’s event.

Special Olympics Maine provides its programs at no cost to children and adults with intellectual disabilities statewide.
