What began as a routine traffic stop Friday night quickly escalated into a serious drug arrest, with police seizing large quantities of narcotics, cash, and filing multiple criminal charges against a local man.

Nelson Gomes, 48, of Old Orchard Beach, was stopped by officers conducting traffic enforcement at approximately 7:32 p.m. on December 19.

According to police, the investigation uncovered roughly 43.7 grams of packaged cocaine and 22.4 grams of compressed methamphetamine pills resembling Adderall, along with a significant amount of cash.

Gomes was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs, operating under the influence of alcohol, operating without a license, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He is currently being held at the York County Jail on $35,000 bail.
