BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor physician was subjected to verbal threats connected to his race inside Timber Kitchen and Bar last November, an incident captured on video that spread widely across social media and prompted public scrutiny over how the city handles harassment and intimidation in public spaces.
The encounter, recorded by a witness and shared online, shows a man aggressively confronting the doctor inside the Bass Park Boulevard restaurant. Viewers identified the man as Robert “Bobby” Jordan. As backlash grew, Jordan deleted his Facebook account, though screenshots of past posts continued circulating among commenters.
Bangor Police told The Maine Wire ,at that time, the incident remains an “ongoing investigation”, but provided no further details about those involved or whether charges were expected. Police also did not address a timeline for concluding the investigation or clarify what steps were being taken to assess threats shown in the video.
The Maine Wire contacted both the Residence Inn and the restaurant to ask whether either had taken action or planned to comment publicly. The restaurant responded by saying the patron involved is a regular and valued customer, the assailant is not, and that after learning of the matter it contacted authorities.
Online reaction to the video was swift, with residents condemning the behavior as unacceptable and raising concerns about hostility toward immigrant professionals. Commenters also questioned why the confrontation was allowed to unfold inside a busy restaurant and whether local businesses have effective protocols for handling threatening behavior.
As the video continued circulating on line community members urged law enforcement and city leaders to act, including calls for criminal charges and public condemnation from city officials.
On Saturday, the doctor reached out to The Maine Wire and said an arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 21, and that the defendant will be charged with terrorizing and criminal threatening, with prosecutors seeking jail time. The Maine Wire has reached out to the Bangor Police Department for comment.
