WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump on Saturday touted what he called “another BIG WIN for Maine, and all of New England,” saying he signed a presidential proclamation aimed at expanding commercial fishing access in the Atlantic Ocean.

In a statement, Trump accused Democrats and what he called the “Radical Left” of imposing “burdensome and unnecessary restrictions on everything,” including commercial fishing. He said he reversed prohibitions on commercial fishing during his first term, but claimed Joe Biden, “or whoever was using the AUTOPEN,” as Trump put it, reinstated the restrictions.

Trump said that “since Day One,” he has taken what he described as historic action to end those policies. He claimed the new proclamation would “UNLEASH Commercial Fishing in the Atlantic Ocean,” advancing what he called the “America First Fishing Policy.”

According to Trump, the proclamation restores nearly 5,000 square miles of fishing access off the New England coast, a move he said will revitalize the region’s fishing industry and strengthen the economy.

He congratulated fishermen and urged voters to back Republicans going forward, calling on them to “VOTE REPUBLICAN IN THE MIDTERMS,” and said the action was taken despite what he described as strong Democratic opposition.
