PAWTUCKET, R.I. — The suspected gunman in a deadly shooting at a Rhode Island ice rink was an employee at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, officials confirmed Monday, according to WGME.

Three people, including the suspected shooter, were killed and three others were injured in the shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket during a high school hockey game between two co-op teams.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves identified the suspect as Robert Dorgan, who also goes by Roberta Esposito. Goncalves said the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

David Hench, a spokesperson for General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, confirmed Dorgan was an active employee.

“Robert Dorgan was an active employee with General Dynamics Bath Iron Works,” Hench said in a statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families and all those affected by this tragedy. Any further questions should be directed to law enforcement.”

According to WJAR, one of the deceased was the suspect’s son. The three injured victims were reported to be in critical condition.

WJAR reported that the suspected shooter was the father of a North Providence senior who was playing in the game at the time of the incident.

Chief Goncalves said the shooting appears to have stemmed from a family dispute that escalated into violence.

She also highlighted the actions of a bystander who intervened and attempted to subdue the suspect, saying his actions helped bring a “swift end to this tragic event.”

All students participating in the hockey game were unharmed, according to WJAR.

Authorities said a white van with Maine license plates was towed from the rink following the shooting.

This story includes reporting from WGME and WJAR.
