Team USA Hockey – again with a former Maine hockey player on roster – has captured an Olympic Gold Medal.
Goalie Jeremy Swayman played three seasons (2017-20) with the University of Maine Black Bears.
Not since USA hockey last won gold in 1980, when the “Miracle on Ice” team did it with the help of another Maine guy, has American puck fever peaked to this level.
The captain of the famous 1980 team was Mike Eruzione, who previously had played hockey for Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine.
And now the Maine connection scores again!
“It was a game for the ages that nobody will forget for a long time, and 46 years after capturing the Gold Medal with an upset of the Soviet Union, this generation of United States players took down Canada. What a tournament that didn’t disappoint,” reports CausewayCrowd.com.
“Jeremy Swayman Is An Olympic Gold Medalist🗣️,” exclaimed a post on the University of Maine Men’s Ice Hockey Team social media platform “X.”
Swayman, goaltender for the NHL Boston Bruins, was backup goalie against Canada. He started in goal for the U.S. preliminary win over Denmark.
Swayman joined the iconic Bruins after three years at UMaine.
