At approximately 9:33 a.m., the Franklin County Regional Communication Center received a call reporting a man waving a firearm in the parking lot of the Walmart at 615 Wilton Road in Farmington.

The caller reported that the man was getting in and out of his vehicle, and that it was unclear whether he was trying to leave.

Police responded with assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and made contact with an elderly male suspect, who was in his vehicle at the time.

The suspect reportedly reluctantly complied with law enforcement’s commands, and he was detained.

Officers took him into protective custody and transported him to the Maine Health Franklin Hospital for evaluation.

Police secured the firearm the suspect was allegedly waving during the incident.

In response to the incident, the Walmart went into a temporary lockdown that ended at approximately 9:55 a.m.

Police did not name the suspect or indicate whether he will face any criminal charges.
