Ex-Washington Post Liberal Editor Joins Chellie Blaming Mass Layoffs On Conservatives

The twice-divorced liberal Maine congresswoman who used to sleep with the owner of the Portland Press Herald has found a new soulmate.

Chellie Pingree is now “in bed” with yet-another liberal newspaper boss – former Washington Post editor Marty Baron.

Baron and Pingree have found a common bond linking the Post’s rolling demise to an alleged loss of liberal subscribers.

For his part, Baron claims that if the Post hadn’t become so pro-Trump it would be doing just fine.

“They lack a moral core,” Baron said in an interview. “They’re very deferential to Trump. They’ve driven subscribers away.”

Baron commented in the wake of the Post’s financial losses that last week resulted in its laying off a third of its workforce.

“For every subscriber they get coming in the door for their good coverage they’re losing two subscribers out the back door,” he told PBS, another liberal dinosaur on the way out.

“I don’t know the numbers exactly but clearly they’ve been losing a lot of subscribers,” Baron added.

Eleven days before the 2024 election, according to Baron, the post killed an editorial that endorsed Kamala Harris, further alienating their leftist readers.

“Hundreds of thousands of subscribers canceled at that time,” aggravating the financial problems that they had,” he said.

Baron at the time spoke out emphatically against the Post’s refusal to endorse a presidential candidate for the first time since 1988, calling it “cowardice, with democracy as its casualty.”

Subsequent to that, Baron says, Post owner Jeff Bezos “did all kinds of things that made things even worse, including appearing on the inauguration stage with Trump, buying the so-called Melania documentary for an exorbitant price, as well as the rights to The Apprentice and changing the opinion pages so they really have no columnists who are essentially left of center.”

Chellie, now divorced from Donald Sussman, the billionaire who was once the principal owner of Maine’s largest liberal newspaper, the Portland Press Herald she shared a bed with, is all in with Baron, at least in terms of their politics and hating conservative news outlets.

“I’m completely disgusted by the mass layoffs at the Washington Post,” Chellie said last week.

She claimed Bezos is “single-handedly destroying” the Post, calling the layoffs a tragedy.

The Maine Wire isn’t (yet) a matchmaking outlet so if Chellie and Marty want to transition their conservative-newspaper hatred to something arguably less fulfilling they’ll have to do it on their own.

But if numbers are any indication of success in one discipline, credibly covering the news, TMW might want to begin diversifying…

After all, when it comes to readership, the conservative Maine Wire has proven it knows how to run a business – far eclipsing the old Chellie-Sussman rag, proving a news outlet doesn’t need liberals to prosper.

Evidence Facebook, which shows The Maine Wire with 133,000 followers vs. the Portland Chellie Herald with 93,000.

Just two weeks ago those numbers were 124,000 vs. 92,000, so you can clearly see where this is going…

If anyone (Chellie) thinks conservatism is a dying art, check the explosive Maine Wire growth compared to the Press Herald’s anemia.

Contrary to its claim as being “Maine’s leading news provider,” the Press Herald isn’t holding a candle to The Maine Wire, accurately billed as “Maine’s fastest growing investigative reporting outlet.”

Look at the stats for conservative book sales. Or, ratings for conservative talk radio vs liberal talk radio. Anyone remember the liberal Air America with Al Franken? How about network TV ratings with FoxNews vs. ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/PBS…. The nation is not anywhere as liberal as the Democrats, liberals and corporate media wants us to believe.
