PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — An early-morning house fire on Ginn Road in Presque Isle left one adult male dead Wednesday after firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions on the second floor, according to officials.

The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 139 Ginn Road at approximately 3:43 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. When crews arrived, flames were heavily involved on the second floor of the residence.

Two occupants were able to escape the house safely. Firefighters were told a third occupant was unaccounted for and believed to be on the second floor. A team of State Fire Marshal investigators responded to the scene, where an adult male was later located deceased inside the home.

Investigators determined the fire originated in the deceased male’s bedroom, though the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The victim will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause of death and confirm positive identification. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Presque Isle Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Presque Isle Police Department, Easton Fire Department, Caribou Fire and Ambulance, and Versant Power. The Mapleton Fire Department provided station coverage.

Investigators also noted that a functioning smoke detector on the first floor alerted the two surviving occupants, allowing them to escape. There were no working smoke detectors on the second floor, where the fire began.
