Eric Heal came upon a Bangor cop in distress trying to cuff a suspect wanted on a warrant.
Officer Tanner Favreau was in a parking lot when she identified a passenger in a vehicle as someone who had an active warrant.
He was uncooperative and resisted apprehension.
During the struggle, Favreau attempted to radio for backup, but her radio traffic was not being transmitted.
Heal approached Favreau and offered assistance.
With Heal’s help, Favreau was able to safely subdue the man with the warrant and take him into custody.
Without Heal’s assistance, the suspect may have been able to escape, or someone may have been hurt.
When contacted by Bangor Police, Heal told officers that he had only wanted to help.
He later came to the Bangor Police Department where he received a Challenge Coin.
The coins are given out to civilians who show courage and act above and beyond the call of duty.
