Congressman Seth Moulton’s (D-MA) illegal immigrant guest at the State of the Union address was revealed to be named in Milford, Massachusetts, police reports involving “sexual assault and juveniles,” according to the Boston Herald.
The congressman has praised Gomes da Silva as both “a patriot” and a “great American,” illustrating him as a reminder of what courage should look like.
The revelations surfaced after the Boston Herald obtained information via public record request to the Milford Police Department and the Secretary of State’s Office.
Moulton proceeded to bring Gomes da Silva to the State of the Union address after the teen was detained by ICE in May for an expired student visa. Gomes da Silva was held for almost a week at an ICE facility in Burlington before being granted a $2,000 bond by an immigration judge, finding that Gomes da Silva was not a danger to the public.
Gomes da Silva denied any wrongdoing in prior police involvement, stating to the Boston Herald, “I have never assaulted anyone. I have never been contacted by the police about any accusations of assault.” Gomes da Silva also went on to say, “I only learned about these reports that allegedly include my name in them through the media. I have never seen these alleged posts.”
A spokesperson for Moulton informed reporters that based on their review, Marcelo Gomes da Silva was never charged with a crime.
As Moulton and other politicians doubled-down on Marcelo’s innocence, they also continued to proudly parade him around the state. He was invited to tour Gov. Maura Healey’s office at the State House following his release from ICE detention.
The congressman is facing a tough battle for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Ed Markey, and the blunder is not going to make his path any easier.
