Maine House Seat Held By Term-Limited ‘Indy’ May Go To GOP

A midcoast Maine House seat is looking to go red after eight years trending blue, with no announced liberals so far in the race this year.

Ray Thombs of Union announced he’s seeking the GOP nomination for House District 44, which represents Warren, Hope and Union.

Thombs becomes the second announced Republican, the other being Brady Clark of Hope.

“Many families and small businesses are feeling squeezed by rising costs and increasing regulations,” Thombs said. “We need leadership focused on restoring the conditions that help Maine thrive.”

Thombs grew up in rural Maine and said his upbringing shaped the values that guide him today.

The district is currently represented by “independent” term-limited William Pluecker of Warren, who has held the seat since 2019.

Clark announced in December, saying, “I’m running for office because I there is a disconnect with the younger and older generation of people and being 33 I would be inclined to believe that’s a perfect age to bridge that gap.”

“There no reason two adults can’t sit down and find common ground on issues that face our community and local towns,” Clark said.

“It’d be nice to see a new face to an old system and I’m hoping to grow the voice of your average everyday person,” he added.
