A team of taste testers whose job it is to rate eats bad or good is giving a big thumbs down to “Exploremores.”
Exploremores were added this year to the Girl Scout Cookie lineup but they fall flat, according to the team from SeriousEats.com.
“Exploremores had the most to prove – and unfortunately fell the furthest from the mark,” writes Lee Musho in her cookie recap.
Musho described herself as “a senior food and beverage editor and advanced sommelier,” so she’s no rookie at rating.
Laila Ibrahim, associate culinary editor at SeriousEats, was quoted that the Exploremores have “really bad-quality chocolate with a strong artificial flavor.”
“I had high hopes for this, but something about it tastes a bit fake,” said Megan Steinranger, associate editorial director.
The cookie tasters gave their top prize to the Samoas, which they promised “deliver a layered mix of textures and flavor that few other cookies in the lineup can match.”
So these tasters aren’t really cookie monsters, they’re just realists who actually are also big fans of the annual rite of spring known as Girl Scout Cookies.
“Girl Scout Cookies inspire a level of devotion that borders on irrational,” Musho wrote. “I once brought a few boxes to a dinner party and was met with more excitement than when I showed up with black truffles.”
