The league has fined Celtics big mouth Jaylen Brown $50,000 for criticizing the refs during a live stream after Boston’s Game 7 loss to the 76ers.
The NBA announced the penalty Tuesday night, per Yahoo Sports.
Brown had said in a livestream he hosts that game officials “clearly had an agenda” to call fouls against him for “pushing off” when he drove toward the basket while handling the ball.
“There’s some referees that need to be investigated,” Brown said on the livestream Sunday, a day after Boston’s 109-100 loss to Philly in their first-round playoff series.
During Sunday’s stream, ESPN reports, Brown showed a play in which Sixers forward Paul George appeared to push off slightly before making an offensive move.
“If you’re going to call push-offs, call that,” Brown said. “Same move. Same refs. Oh, it’s nothing? It’s play on, right?
“But you gonna call me? Everybody does it … but if it would have been me, it’d have been an offensive foul.”
Brown was previously fined $35,000 in January after a two-minute postgame rant about the officiating following Boston’s loss to San Antonio.
“Jaylen Brown is a great NBA player. Let’s establish that from the start. He’s clearly insecure about the degree to which his superstar status is externally acknowledged, and we’ll get into that, but he’s a great player,” Brad Botkin of CBS Sports writes. “That said, enough with the victim routine.”
Brown is a five-time NBA all-star and won a championship with Boston two years ago.
