Secret Service agents shot and injured an armed suspect found near the White House on Monday after he allegedly shot at agents and injured a minor, just a week after the latest assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.
In a brief social media post, the Secret Service announced an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue, near the National Mall.
They provided additional details in a press conference.
Plain-clothes agents reportedly spotted a suspicious individual who appeared to be armed, and approached him.
After agents made contact, the suspect allegedly fled on foot, before reportedly drawing a firearm and shooting in the direction of law enforcement.
Law enforcement returned fire and struck the suspect.
One juvenile bystander was allegedly struck by the suspect during the shootout, and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Secret Service have not yet identified the suspect.
The incident came just a week after Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California allegedly attempted to assassinate President Trump during the White House Correspondentsโ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
