The Portland Police Department arrested a man on Saturday after he allegedly shot someone in both legs in Westbrook and assaulted another victim.

At approximately 6:53 a.m., the Westbrook Police Department received a call from 156 Brighton Road reporting a disturbance possibly involving a weapon.

While officers were responding, they received another call reporting gunshots from the residence.

Officers arrived and immediately detained several people outside the residence.

They made entry to the home and found one victim who had been shot in both legs and another who had been assaulted.

Officers provided emergency first aid and applied tourniquets to the gunshot victim and secured the scene. The victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police spent several hours on scene investigating the crime and eventually arrested one of the men detained outside the building, Shuceyb Hersi, 36, of Portland.

He was charged with elevated aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated assault, and reckless conduct.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police did not release a mugshot of the suspect, and he does not currently appear in Cumberland County Jail records.

“Portland man.” By way of Somalia.

May be time to look at whether any legal status he has can be revoked. We have enough of our own criminals.
