CLINTON, Maine – A Clinton man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a 2025 shooting death on Main Street in Clinton, according to Maine State Police.

James Simonson, 66, of Clinton, was arrested at approximately 3:20 p.m. on May 21 by detectives with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central.

Simonson has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in connection with the late June 2025 shooting that killed 68-year-old William โ€œBillโ€ Parent of Clinton.

Parent died from injuries sustained in the shooting. An autopsy conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined that Parentโ€™s cause of death was gunshot wounds and that the manner of death was homicide.

Simonson was transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

State Police said no further details will be released at this time.
