LEWISTON, Maine – The Lewiston Police Department provided an update on recent enforcement actions tied to ongoing public safety concerns in the city, following the arrest and detention of seven juveniles Friday in connection with last week’s violent assault.

Police said officers continued proactive enforcement efforts throughout the weekend.

Early Saturday morning, officers recovered a stolen handgun from two juveniles. Both were charged with Receiving Stolen Property, a Class B offense, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a Class D offense. They were also issued conditions of release.

Later Saturday evening, officers conducting foot patrols confiscated another firearm.

One individual was charged with Providing Liquor to a Minor, Unlawful Furnishing of Scheduled Drugs, Refusing to Submit to Arrest, and Failure to Inform Law Enforcement of a Concealed Handgun. A second individual was issued a summons for Minor Consuming Liquor.

Early Sunday morning, officers recovered another stolen firearm from an adult. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail and charged with Theft by Possession of Stolen Property, a Class B offense; Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a Class D offense; Refusing to Submit to Arrest, a Class E offense; and Falsifying Physical Evidence, a Class D offense.

The department said it will continue actively pursuing those involved in recent violent activity and expects additional charges as the investigation progresses.

Lewiston police said public safety remains their top priority and that officers are working additional hours, both visibly and behind the scenes, to address the concerns and keep neighborhoods safe.

Alcohol? Isn’t that supposed to be taboo? Deqa Dhalac lectured the world that Lewiston was “revitalized” by Somali immigration, indeed, Lewiston was a “dead town” before the New Mainers arrived. But here we are, shootings are way up, drug deals/use is way up, welfare fraud is way up. I don’t think “revitalized” means what you think it means. Where is the Mayor and the City Council when taxpayers really need them? Where is the support for the police department in keeping crime at bay for citizens? The sound you hear is crickets….just wait until election time though and you will hear how they have been “fighting” for ALL Lewiston residents. I’m sure the Mayor and the City Council is very busy figuring out how they can give more taxpayer money to the New Mainers after the reevaluation revenue windfall.

When will they start deporting these outstanding illegals? My guess is they won’t.

Chris, they need to start deporting youthful offenders, as appropriate, AND THEIR ENTIRE FAMILIES. Anyone near them who is here illegally. Intense ICE scrutiny for families not bothering to raise these miscreants.

That might keep the little a-holes in line.

We need a very significant ICE presence in Maine….deportations will fill all of the empty airline seats! Mills admin has stopped it.
