Mexico Man With Over 20 Convictions Arrested after Showing Up at Oxford County Jail and Threatening to Shoot Corrections Staff

The Oxford Sheriff’s Department arrested a Mexico, Maine man on Tuesday morning after he allegedly arrived at the Oxford County Jail and threatened to shoot corrections officers before being tased and eventually subdued.

At approximately 6:00 a.m., a Mexico resident on Richard’s Avenue called the sheriff’s department reporting a property dispute with a male neighbor.

He claimed that the neighbor claimed that he planned to shoot up the Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 6:56 a.m., the man arrived at the Oxford County Complex in South Paris and allegedly threatened to shoot jail staff.

The Paris Police Department, Norway Police Department, and the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department responded to the complex, and a verbal and physical altercation ensued.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly assaulted a Paris police officer.

The suspect was reportedly tased multiple times before he was eventually subdued.

He was identified as Rex Call, 40, of Mexico.

Call faces charges of two counts of terrorizing, two counts of violations of conditions of release, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and assault on a police officer.

This is far from Call’s first offense. He has a history including over 20 convictions but was nevertheless free to allegedly assault law enforcement under a year after his most recent arrest in November.

In November, he was arrested for alleged fraud when he reportedly attempted to deposit a $6,000 canceled check.

That arrest followed over 20 convictions for a variety of crimes, such as misdemeanors, felony negotiating a worthless instrument, forgery, misuse of identification, and burglary of a motor vehicle, along with convictions on bail violations, probation violations, and failure to appear.

If the past is any indication, Call will likely be free to re-offend very shortly.

I want to know how the neighbor got involved. Unless the neighbor is a cop or somehow related to law enforcement, I don’t understand why the threat would’ve been made to the neighbor.

I think there’s more here I just don’t know what
