The Maine Democrat Party reportedly canceled a Friday rally in Bangor set to feature Graham Platner and David Costello, the party’s remaining contenders for Senate.
No reason was given for the apparent cancellation of the event aimed at faulting five-term GOP Sen. Susan Collins.
The Maine Wire reached out to both campaigns for an explanation.
“Check with Maine DEMs,” the Costello campaign curtly replied. “Their event, their call…”
Costello declined to elaborate, strange since a U.S. Senate candidate should be able to advocate for himself independently of the party.
A volunteer for Platner’s campaign replied, “Forwarding your message so you can get a proper response!”
None was immediately forthcoming.
The event, titled the “Calling Out Collins Rally,” was designed to “call out Susan Collins’ record of failing Mainers and underscore the stakes of the 2026 Senate race.”
The rally webpage at one point had been deleted, returning a 404 error, as well as multiple social media posts/videos promoting the event.
The website was active on some platforms later Thursday, still dark on others.
An email to people who RSVP’d simply says:”Thank you so much for your RSVP and interest in attending. Unfortunately, this event has been canceled.”
Platner currently has no conflicting events listed on his website.
“Call out” Collins for what, exactly?
Nazi tattoos?

Insulting veterans?
Great sperm?
If calling out should be done, I’m thinking Senator Collins is relatively safe.
“If you can’t say something nice , then don’t say anything at all . “
But the democrats have NOTHING ELSE to say .
They hate Trump . End of thought .
They sure as hell haven’t said or done anything the last eight years that benefited me .
For the sake of both Maine and our nation, Susan Collins needs to retain her seat in the US Senate. For many reasons, Graham Platner should NOT be elected to be a leader in government anywhere in America – certainly not for us here in Maine – and I pray the people of Maine will not be responsible for giving an extremely reckless, impulsive person a voice in Congress
An event to promote yourself by talking sh*t about the competition…wow…sounds like the democrats have absolutely zero to run on…but…we already knew that didn’t we. Platner is a mentally sick piece of crap who is unfit for any elected position…he needs therapy. i’ve never even heard of the other guy but i’m sure he has zero to offer mainers except hatred for trump.
The Maine People’s Alliance must have been freed from their perpetual acid flash back and decided that a Friday paid to protest event might back fire.
They cancelled because they knew they couldn’t “call out” Collins with a straight face, considering the national embarrassment that Splatner has become.
Costello needs to distance himself from Looney Platner! But by now, his run is obsolete!
