LEWISTON, Maine — Five juveniles have been charged in connection with a retaliatory shooting on Pierce Street, Lewiston Police announced Monday, just days before a scheduled community conversation on gun violence in the city.

The community conversation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, located at 777 Main St. in Lewiston. The event is being hosted by Pastor Aaron Davis, Jon Fetherston, and Ben Midgley.

Police said officers responded to the area of 125 Pierce Street at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, after receiving numerous reports of gunshots in the neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they did not locate anyone involved in the shooting. Police then conducted a thorough search of the area and found several spent shell casings behind an apartment building on Pierce Street.

Investigators also discovered multiple bullet holes that had entered what police described as a targeted apartment.

As officers spoke with the intended victims, investigators learned that they had been warned earlier in the evening that they may be targeted.

Lewiston Police continued investigating the shooting throughout the weekend. As a result of that investigation, five juveniles were charged in connection with the retaliatory shooting.

A 16-year-old male was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder and violation of conditions of release.

A second 16-year-old male was also charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder and violation of conditions of release.

A 15-year-old male was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder and violation of conditions of release.

A 14-year-old male was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder and violating conditions of release.

A second 15-year-old male was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder.

All five juveniles were transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center.

The Pierce Street shooting follows a string of recent gun violence incidents in Lewiston involving juveniles and young people.

On May 7, Lewiston Police responded to 4 Avon St. after reports of screaming and multiple gunshots. Police said a 14-year-old boy was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in stable condition. Several teenagers were detained, and police recovered three firearms.

A 13-year-old boy was later accused of shooting the 14-year-old, and a 15-year-old was also charged in connection with the incident.

Days later, on May 10, police responded to the area of Ash and Howe streets after reports of gunfire. Witnesses told police that two groups of teens and young adults were shooting at each other. No injuries were reported, but several bullets struck nearby vehicles and buildings.

Following that investigation, police charged 21-year-old Jayden Shaw with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and aggravated criminal mischief. Police said at the time that additional suspects were being sought.

Police said the Pierce Street investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Anyone with information related to the Pierce Street incident is encouraged to contact Lewiston Police Detective Dominic Cloutier at [email protected].

The Lewiston Police Department also thanked the District Attorney’s Office and Juvenile Community Corrections Officers for their assistance throughout the investigation.

The community conversation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, located at 777 Main St. in Lewiston.
