The formerly moderate Democratic congressional candidate Matt Dunlap reaffirmed his support for Graham Platner on Monday despite the new cheating scandal plaguing the presumptive Democratic Senate nominee.
“Do you still continue to support Graham Platner,” a reporter asked Dunlap.
“I do. I think he’d be a good senator,” responded Dunlap.
Dunlap directly reaffirmed his previous endorsement of Platner, said that Platner’s treatment of his wife was “between him and her” and condemned Nazism while refusing to directly comment on Platner’s tattoo.
Dunlap, the former state auditor, previously portrayed himself as a moderate Democrat and even sat down for an interview with Maine Wire Editor-in-Chief Steve Robinson. Since launching his campaign for the 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), he has embraced more radical left-wing priorities.
He disavowed a past pro-life vote and endorsed the radical Platner.

Dunlap reaffirmed his endorsement after weekend revelations that Platner has allegedly had multiple extramarital affairs and that he has a seemingly sexualized account on Kik, an anonymous chat site dubbed a “predator’s paradise” by the Center on Sexual Exploitation.
Kik has appeared in numerous Maine criminal cases of sexual exploitation as a platform that allowed predators the freedom and anonymity needed to operate.
Dunlap isn’t the only Democrat to stand by Platner following the new revelations. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows did so literally on Sunday while campaigning with Platner at a joint event.

“It was great to start our day in Oxford before getting to rally in deering oaks park (sic) with my friends at Maine People’s Alliance and Graham Platner! We’re building a movement for transformational change in Maine and we’re going to win this primary in just a few days,” said Bellows in an X statement following the event.
Currently, Democrats have few options if they want to vote for their party but have become put off by Platner’s unremitting string of controversies, since Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine) suspended her Senate campaign on April 30.
Interestingly, Gov. Mills returned to her campaign’s X account on Monday, shortly after the latest controversies broke, to make her first post there since her campaign suspension.
“Happy Pride Month, Maine! Everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically and marry who they love without fear. I’m proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community, today and every day,” said Mills.
While the message itself does not necessarily hint at renewed political ambitions, it does raise questions about why she would post it from her campaign account rather than her personal or gubernatorial pages.

Dunlap has his own skeletons in his closet.
“He disavowed a past pro-life vote and endorsed the radical Platner.”
