In a display of raw emotion rarely seen coming from the bench, a judge yelled at a New York man who pleaded guilty to murder.
“You’re a despicable small man,” Judge Timothy Mazzei yelled at Rex Heuermann. “You’re coward!”
Mazzei handed down three life sentences, no parole eligibility.
Heuermann murdered eight women – “eight that we know of,” Mazzei said – including Megan Waterman, 22, of Scarborough in the so-called Gilgo Beach killings in New York.
Waterman, a single mother, disappeared in June 2010 and her skeletal remains were later found, among the victims of the Gilgo Beach serial killer.
She had last been seen alive at a Long Island, New York motel.
During Wednesday’s sentencing, Mazzei asked the 6-foot-4 former architect if he had anything to say before he was sentenced in Suffolk County court for killing eight women.
But when the Gilgo Beach killer started speaking from his seat, the judge scolded him to “Stand up!”
After Heuermann mumbled that he has no words, the judge let loose.
“You’ve been described as a very big man but you’re a disgusting and despicable small man if you’re a man at all and you’re a coward,” Mazzei told Heuermann – then delivered his sentence before adding, “Get him out of here.”
