A pair of top Boston bloggers who critique the city’s talk-radio shows are taking aim at WBZ’s Mike Felger’s braggadocio.
Boston Media Critic and Boston Radio Watch, two competing bloggers on X, turned radio-host Felger into a virtual meme Thursday.
They both lampooned Felger taking credit for coming in on his day off to discuss Wednesday’s blockbuster trade by the Celtics of Jaylen Brown.
Felger did his broadcast Thursday from Nantucket, telling listeners he simply couldn’t stay away.
“I want it on this,” Felger said. “Who wouldn’t want it on this? I was supposed to be off today but I couldn’t take it off.”
“Thank you for coming in Mike,” said a fawning James Stewart, executive producer for the Felger & Mazz show on 98.5 The Sports Hub and a prominent Boston sports media personality.
“What a hero!” cracked Boston Media Critic in an X post. “Felger telling us that he is doing the show from Nantucket because of the Jaylen Brown trade even though he was supposed to be off.”
Boston Radio Watch picked up the ball from there, mocking Felger ‘s self-avowed heroism.
BRW said that a group of private-equity partners who just bought part of Beasley Media Group, owner of The Sports Hub’s parent WBZ-FM, “aren’t impressed by Felger’s holiday‑weekend heroics.
“His next deal is headed straight for the discount rack, maybe a quarter of today’s number,” BRW quipped. “Good luck, Felger.”
Felger, a longtime Boston Herald reporter before switching to radio, co-hosts the Felger & Mazz show with Tony Massarotti, a former Herald and Globe sportswriter.
The pair are known for “‘calling it like they see it,’ which leads to the show’s perceived negative demeanor towards local sports teams, hot takes, and willingness to go after local teams and players,” says Wiki.
